i told them I was working on an online radio station... and then she said "so free ah"...

does that mean that she doesn't find any value in my radio station and i should be doing something else that she feels has more value to her??

what does "so free ah" generally mean?

It means that whoever tells you that is trying to undermine your job and your passion. I call such people losers.

It's best for you to stick to positive people and avoid those who try to pull you down.

It's quite obvious she is clueless about the whole idea of an 'online radio station' and is ignorant (or plain dumb).

Most people are stuck to the notion that one could only have 'proper jobs' such as: doctors, lawyers, businessman. It's a shame people do not reliase the money making potential of alternative jobs such as DJs, escort services etc. Times have changed and as long as you are making decent money, you can call what you are doing, respectable.

Also, it seems clear that she doesn't understand what hobbies and interests are and I could imagine she is the sort of person that hangs around doing nothing more than watching soap operas and complaining there's nothing to do.

Depends on the tone of that person's voice. I've been at the receiving end of such comments several times but they're always accompanied with a laugh or smile, so that's okay with me.

In your example quoted, 'so free' implies that your job very senang or enjoyable.

perhaps it's a jelousy tone.. i mean, who will not be jelous of somebody who has the freedom on his/her job? no need to wear formal aufit to work, no boss to scold you, no need to act like you're busy in front of computer when your superior walk nearby, etc.

Working on your own, you have the freedom of doing what you want...'so free ah'..
