Ask her to get you batik clothes esp men shirts are gorgeous. Buy some paintings about the life there. Tropical seas and beautiful natural landscape. She will find that Malaysia is a shopping paradise. Everything seems to be cheaper compared to other countries.

Batik is a type of hand printed textile. Malaysians love colours. So Batik will be colourful. You could ask her to get you a scraf, which you could wear for a dinner or function. Plenty of silk scrafs in a place called central market/pasar seni or even the airport. Ties/shirts available in batik too.

Pewter is also another thing she could get you. Its basically things/decorative items made from a mixture of tin and copper. Nice key chains, letter opener, etc. These can be pricy, but its worth the gift. Lots of Selangor Pewter shops around. These are price-controlled items.

Malaysian art is also nice. Lots of water colour stuff and oil paintings.

Souvieniers from the Twin Towers? Thats pretty cool too.

Malaysia is not very well known for wood products. So if you see them, they may be a product of Thailand or Indonesia.

You know, Malaysia is a culture-rich country with different things to see, experience and buy in different states. So going to Kuala Lumpur (KL) could you you much different things than going to Sarawak (East Malaysia) or Langkawi (Duty-free island).

It all boils down to what you like? Do you enjoy collecting antiques, crafts, then you will get the best souvenirs from Sarawak or even Melaka. If you want to get cheap, duty free chocolates, cosmetics and perfumes, then Langkawi will be the best place to shop, or you're a sucker for clothes, shoes and pewter stuff like was mentioned, than KL alone would be sufficient.

Batik is one of the popular souvenir that you can purchase.

Traditional batik uses silk or cotton cloth as its material. The advancement of technology has enabled fabrics such as voile, chiffon, cheesecloth, georgette and velvet to be used in the design of batik.

Selangor Pewter is another type of souvenir where the goods are made from tin and other metals. Photoframe, namecard holder, mug, letter opener and model of twin towers are among the gifts that you can purchased.
